5 Years and counting!

Five years ago today Steve and I were married. Time has just flown by. I am sure you know what I mean. I thought I would take you all back with me while I reminisce about when Steve and I met.

It was July 12th, 2003. I had gone country swing dancing with Andrea Lowe (now Jones) and I had lost track of her during a dance. While I was looking around for her I realized that some guy was walking straight at me. My first thought was " totally not my type. Just a dumb jock." He asked me to slow dance and by the end of the song he had completely changed my mind. I didn't know much about him but I knew I wanted to get to know him better.

Just a few minutes later I was standing to the side (again looking for Andrea!) and a couple of random guys started talking to me. They said they were from Orem (like Steve had) and I said something about there being a lot of people from Orem here tonight. One of them proceeded to ask me to go to a bonfire after the dance and I said no. I made up several excuses as to why I couldn't go. He asked for my number and I didn't feel comfortable giving it to him so I told him that I didn't give my number out to people I don't know.

As I am in the process of turning this guy down Steve comes over. These were his friends. The ones that had dragged him to the dance. Once I realized that he was going to be at the bonfire I tried to backtrack and figure out a way that I could still go. But, it was too hard. Steve had overheard me refuse my number to his friend so he didn't even ask me.

I was so bummed. I totally thought we had a connection during our dance and then he didn't even ask for my number???

The next week I was there again, but I think this time my sister Jen and her then-boyfriend-now-husband Ben were there. Steve was there too and he asked me to dance again. But he DIDN'T REMEMBER my name. I still tease him about that.

The rest is history. We dated long distance for about 4 months before getting engaged on November 25th and we were married six months later on May 19th, 2004.

He is a sweetheart, and I love him so much. He is so patient with my health issues and gets up with the boys most days so I can sleep in. He takes great care of our family and works so hard at everything he does. I love you, honey!

So fun to hear your story! What happened between the second country dance night and the first real date?
